The Corolla hatchback engine is a 2.0-liter dual overhead cam inline-4 with dual variable valve timing. It produces 169 horsepower @ 6600 rpm and 161 lb-ft of torque @ 4400 rpm. Power is controlled by an efficient Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which drives the front wheels. The hatchback has an EPA-estimated city/highway/combined mpg rating of 32 / 41 / 35. It is worth repeating that on the highway, this non-hybrid model can achieve 41 mpg.   

All Corolla Hatchback models have a Macpherson strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar and a rear independent multi-link rear suspension with a stabilizer bar.   

Exterior   

The Corolla Hatchback has an aggressive profile with a pointed nose and sloping rear hatch. The SE has 16-inch alloy wheels, while the Nightshade and XSE bump up to 18-inch rims with a bronze finish on the Nightshade and a graphite finish on the XSE. A two-tone exterior with a black roof is standard on the Nightshade and available on the SE and XSE. 

Interior 

The dash features sweeping lines with soft-touch materials, and a sporty tri-spoke steering wheel greets the driver. All models feature the Smart Key System with a push-button start. SE and Nightshade models feature cloth seating with 6-way manual driver adjustment, while the XSE upgrades to SofTex surfaces and an 8-way power adjustable seat. The rear hatch provides wide-open access to 17.8 cubic feet behind the rear seat, which expands significantly when one or both sides of the 60/40 split rear seat back are lowered.  

Technology  

The dash features an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen with standard wireless Apple CarPlay® & Android Auto™ compatibility. The Toyota Audio Multimedia system allows dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity. A 30-day/3 GB Wi-Fi Connect trial subscription offers 4G connectivity for up to five devices, turning the car into an AT&T Hotspot. It also can stream Apple Music® and Amazon Music subscriptions to the vehicle with the Integrated Streaming service (30-day trial included). This augments the already-robust audio playback ability, which includes HD Radio, USB data, and a SiriusXM 3-month trial subscription.
