Performance 

The fifth-generation Prius engine features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 150 horsepower on its own but combines with one motor for a total of 194 horsepower on FWD models, or two motors, on AWD models with a slight increase to 196 hp. The system is paired with an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission. 

Always a priority to Prius owners, EPA Estimated Fuel Economy (city/highway/combined MPG) is: 

• LE FWD: 57 / 56 / 57  
• XLE, Nightshade, Limited FWD: 52 / 52 / 52 
• LE AWD: 53 / 54 / 54 
• XLE, Nightshade, Limited AWD: 49 / 50 / 49 

All Prius models feature a 4-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts up front, a multi-link design for the rear, and stabilizers on both front and rear. 

Exterior 

The Prius arguably has the sleekest exterior of any compact sedan, especially with its sharply raked windshield at a 21.6-degree angle. This and other aerodynamic features result in a 0.27 drag coefficient when equipped with 17-inch wheels (LE grades). XLE and Limited models come with 19-inch wheels. The wheelbase measures 108.3 inches, with a total length of 181.1 inches. All models are equipped with LED lights all around and heated outside mirrors. 

Interior 

The Prius features an appealing horizontally themed instrument panel with a high-mounted 8-inch multimedia touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch screen is available or standard on higher trims. All models include a high-mounted “above the rim” digital driver’s information display that blends the best features of an in-dash display and a head-up display. Wireless smartphone compatibility comes standard on all models, and all but the base LE grades offer Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging. 

Technology 

High and center on the LE and XLE dashboard is the standard 8-inch touchscreen of the Toyota Audio Multimedia system. The Limited brings a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Also standard on the top grade is an 8-speaker JBL Premium Audio system, which includes a powered subwoofer. Wireless smartphone compatibility is standard on all models, and all but the base XLE grade feature Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging. 

Safety and Driver Assistance

Also standard on every Prius PHEV is the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of safety and driver assistance technologies, which includes: 

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection 

PCS w/PD will help detect a vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist and, in certain circumstances, give drivers an audio/visual forward-collision warning. If they don’t react promptly, the system will automatically brake. 

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control 

DRCC and the available Full-Speed Range DRCC are adaptive cruise control systems for speeds above 20 mph. They use vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to help maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of you. 

Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist 

When white/yellow lane markings or certain road-edge boundary lines are detected at speeds above 32 mph, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA) is designed to issue an audio/visual lane departure warning if the vehicle moves outside of its lane without activating the turn signal. If the driver does not attempt to return to their lane, the system will provide gentle corrective steering for lane-keeping assistance. 

Lane Tracing Assist 

When Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) or available Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar DRCC is enabled, and lane markers are detected, Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) uses the lines on the road and/or preceding vehicles to provide active driving assistance and help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. 

Road Sign Assist 

Using a built-in camera, your Prius can read road signs and display them on the Multi-Information Display (MID). It can detect speed limit signs, stop signs, Do Not Enter signs, and yield signs, and then display them in the gauge cluster display. 

Automatic High Beams 

Above 21 mph, the vehicle recognizes when it is too dark outside and automatically turns on the high beams to help drivers see better. The system will deactivate the high beams once it notices headlights from oncoming traffic, taillights of vehicles in front of you, or overhead road lights.
