Performance   

There are two powertrains in the Corolla sedan model line, although the Corolla Hybrid is discussed separately. The engine in the non-electrified sedans is a 2.0-liter dual overhead cam inline-4 with dual variable valve timing. It produces 169 horsepower @ 6600 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque @ 4400 rpm. Power is managed by an efficient Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which drives the front wheels. With improved Sport mode tuning, the XSE grade also features paddle shifters to engage 10 pre-set ratios to offer a sportier driving experience. 

Most sedan and hatchback models have an EPA-estimated city/highway/combined mpg rating of up to 32 / 41 / 35. It is worth repeating that this non-hybrid model can achieve 41 mpg on the highway.    

All Corolla models have a MacPherson strut front suspension with a stabilizer bar. The LE has a torsion beam rear suspension, which changes to an independent multi-link rear suspension with a stabilizer bar on the SE and XSE. 

Exterior   

The Corolla sedan features the aggressive front-end styling that has become the family design on Toyota passenger cars, with headlights blending into a low-profile upper grille and a larger intake below. Blacked-out pillars create a continuous shape across the side windows above a high lower body. Body-colored mirror caps and door handles add a refined touch. All models come in the same eight exterior colors, including:

The SE and the XSE offer a two-tone look with Ice Cap, Ruby Flare Pearl, Wind Chill Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, Celestite, and Underground. 

Interior  

The dash features sweeping lines with soft-touch materials, and a sporty tri-spoke steering wheel greets the driver. All but the LE grade provide passive entry and push-button start. Ambient interior lighting, dual-zone climate control, and heated front seats are all available. The rear seat offers more legroom than expected and can comfortably seat adults. The trunk offers 18 cubic feet of cargo space behind its back seat, which can be enlarged by six cubic feet (23 total) if you replace the spare tire with a tire repair kit. 

Technology   

The LE and SE models feature a new digital driver information display, which is upgraded to 12.3 inches on the XSE. Similarly, the LE features an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen, while the SE and XSW models come standard with a 10.5-inch display. All models feature standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility.   

The Toyota Audio Multimedia system supports dual Bluetooth® phone connections. A 30-day/3GB Wi-Fi Connect trial provides 4G connectivity for up to five devices, turning the car into an AT&T Hotspot. It can also stream Apple Music® and Amazon Music subscriptions to the vehicle with the Integrated Streaming service (30-day trial included). This enhances the already robust audio features, which include HD Radio, USB data, and a 3-month SiriusXM trial subscription.   

Safety and Driver Assistance  

With standard Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 3.0, all Corollas have an impressive suite of safety and driver assistance technologies that often require upgrades on competing models. TSS 3.0 includes:
