Performance

The i-Force Max hybrid is available in the Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition trims, and standard in the TRD Pro and Capstone models. Note that this hybrid is not available in the base SR and SR5 trim. The i-Force Max 3.4-liter twin-turbo V-6 hybrid produces 437 hp @ 5,200 rpm and 583 lb-ft of torque @ 2,400 rpm. That is more horsepower and torque than found in the Ford 3.5-liter hybrid V6 or the Chevrolet and GMC 6.2-liter V-8. The hybrid system uses a single permanent magnet synchronous motor between the engine and transmission, producing 48 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. While the hybrid system is mainly on hand to increase power, two-wheel-drive models do add about two mpg across the EPA city/hwy/comb estimates at 20/24/22 for most grades.

Like the non-hybrid i-Force, the i-Force Max models use a 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence, sequential shift mode, uphill/downhill shift logic, and tow/haul driving modes. The chassis includes an independent double-wishbone front suspension with a stabilizer bar and twin-tube shock absorbers. At the rear is an independent multi-link arrangement with coil springs and outboard-mounted twin-tube shock absorbers. TRD models have suspension modifications listed by grade below.

i-Force Max Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition grades come standard with rear-wheel drive, with a mechanical 4X4 system identical to non-hybrid models available. TRD Pro and Capstone models come standard with the 4×4 system. The i-Force Max maximum payload varies by configuration and grade, ranging from 1,565 pounds for the 1794 Edition CrewMax 5.5-foot bed i-Force Max 4×4 to 1,680 pounds for Limited with the 6.5-foot bed. Maximum towing varies by configuration and ranges from 11,170 pounds for the CrewMax 4×4 to 11,450 pounds for the CrewMax 4×2.

Exterior

All Tundra i-Force Max models have CrewMax cabs and 5.5-foot beds, while the Limited, Platinum, and 1794 Edition have the option of a 6.5-foot bed.

Tundra i-Force Max models can be most immediately identified from non-electrified Tundra grades by the badging on each side of the hood bulge. Dual black hood vents accompany the badge on the TRD Pro model. Beyond that, the hybrid models share the same grille and trim variations as their non-hybrid counterparts. The exceptions are the TRD Pro and Capstone grades, which come exclusively with the hybrid drivetrain.

Interior

The Tundra dashboard features a chunky, purposeful-looking appearance. The wide center console provides plenty of storage along with the shift lever. All i-Force Max grades feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that can be configured to your preferred display. The four-door CrewMax cab will easily carry five adults, particularly with a massive 46.1 inches of rear legroom.

Materials get upgraded as you climb the model hierarchy to the Capstone, which features semi-aniline leather upholstery, massaging front seats, American walnut interior trim, acoustically laminated side windows, and a head-up display.

Technology

All i-Force Max grades come standard with a 14.0-inch touchscreen and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Both a 12-speaker JBL audio system and Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging are available on the Limited and standard on all above grades, as is dual-zone automatic climate control and keyless entry. Also standard is Drive Mode Select with Eco, Normal, and Sport drive modes and two different tow/haul modes. Higher models feature Sport S, Sport S+, and Custom drive modes.

The useful Trailer Backup Guide system with Straight Path Assist (SPA) is on all grades except TRD Pro. One-touch power windows and a power rear window are standard on all models. The new wireless trailer camera system increases visibility with a Wi-Fi camera you can attach to the rear of your trailer and view on the digital rearview mirror or center multimedia screen.

Safety

All Tundra models feature the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite of safety and driver assist systems, which include:
